How to Deploy a Skills Matrix

GembaDocs gives you three ways to get your skills matrix in front of the team. You can display it on a screen, print a QR code for the workstation, or download a printed copy. The live methods stay current automatically, and printed versions include a generated date so everyone knows how recent the data is.

Lesson Detail

The Lesson

Step 1 – Open the deployment options

Go to the Skills Matrix tile in GembaDocs.

Click the three dots to open the menu. You’ll see three deployment methods listed.

Step 2 – Use digital display

This option is designed for teams who want the matrix visible on a shared screen – a monitor on the production floor, a TV in the break room, or a screen at a workstation.

Copy the URL and open it on whatever display you’re using. Leave it running and the matrix stays live. Any updates you make in GembaDocs will show up automatically.

Step 3 – Generate a QR code

The QR code option lets you print and place the matrix exactly where it’s needed – at the workstation, on the line, or next to a piece of equipment.

This puts the information where the question gets asked, without needing an additional screen. Because it links to the live matrix, the data is always current. No reprinting required when capability levels change.

Step 4 – Download and print

If you need a hard copy, GembaDocs lets you download a print-ready version.

When you generate it, the file downloads automatically. For larger matrices, it will also email you when the file is ready – useful if it takes a moment to process.

Every printed version includes the date it was generated. That means anyone picking it up can quickly judge how current the information is and whether it reflects the latest capability data.

Choosing the right method

All three options have a place depending on your setup:

  • Digital display – best for facilities with screens already in place, or where you want a permanent visibility solution
  • QR code – best for putting live data at the point of use without extra hardware
  • Print – best for high-visibility areas where screens aren’t practical, but factor in how often you’ll need to reprint as capability levels change
