Step 2 - Included Parts

Description

Check that you have all of the parts shown before starting.

Step 3 - Included Hardware

Description

Check that you have all of the hardware shown before starting.

Step 4 - Remove Steps

Description

3rd Gen 4Runner (96 to 02) Strike rock sliders. The kit has one left and one right slider, 33 self threading 3/8 hex heads, 3 flat washers and 3 hex head screws. Remove any factory or aftermarket steps first, since those mount along the body instead of over the frame.

Step 5 - Remove Gas Tank Skid Bolts

Description

With the steps off, find the factory gas tank skid plate on the driver side. Remove the exposed bolt with a 12 mm socket. That lets the tank drop enough for the slider to slide in between the bracket and the frame.

Step 6 - Locate Front Mount

Description

Locate the factory front mount you will bolt the slider into. If anything from the factory is bolted there, like a splash guard or plastic skid plate, remove it too.

Step 7 - Mount Slider

Description

Loosely bolt the slider in, clamped between the gas tank skid and the frame. The arrows on the slider point toward the front of the vehicle. Use 2 of the 6 mm bolts with washers, check alignment, then tighten both once the brackets sit square and tight to the frame.

Step 8 - Drill Frame Holes

Description

Support the slider with C-clamps or a jack. Using a 5/16 bit or step bit, ideally with a right angle drill, drill the rear upper mounting hole through the slider hole. Thread in a 3/8 self threading bolt and tighten with a 9/16 socket.

Step 9 - Drill Remaining Holes

Description

No factory holes remain, so drill the rest of the frame holes with the same 5/16 bit, using the slider holes as a guide or marking and center punching with the slider off. Secure each with a 3/8 self threading bolt. Repeat on both sides.

Step 10 - Tighten Hardware

Description

Remove the clamps or jack, then go around and tighten all the hardware. You now have a sturdy rock slider and side step.

Step 11 - Installation Complete

Description

Confirm all hardware is tightened. Congrats! Your installation of the 3rd Gen 4Runner Strike Sliders is now complete. Enjoy!
