Step by step on how to install the Victory 4x4 Engine Skid Plate on a 3rd Gen GMC Canyon / Chevy Colorado (23+). Steps 3 to 9 remove the factory parts on a Z71-style truck. Steps 10 to 12 are for ZR2 / AT4X trucks with a factory front aluminum skid. Please read all steps carefully before starting.

Check that you have all of the parts and hardware shown before starting. Hardware included: 5/16 x 1-1/4 in. hex bolts with washers, 5/16 clip nuts, and black plastic hole caps. The front and center of the skid reuse your factory bolts.

Z71-style trucks: remove the 10 screws along the front edge of the lower air dam, where the black plastic meets the gray plastic, with a 7mm socket.

Inside each front wheel opening, remove the plastic clip and the small 7mm hex screw furthest out on the air dam. Do both sides.

Two clips on each side hold the air dam to tabs on the painted bumper. Hook each clip with a 90 degree pick, press down and pull back to release it. Reach the second clip through the hole in the fender liner. If you need more room, remove the few T15 Torx screws on the bottom edge of the inner fender.

Pull the air dam out from behind the gray trim, work it around the tow hooks and remove it.

Pop out the five plastic clips along the front edge of the splash shield (three in the center, one on each end) with a clip tool or flat screwdriver.

Remove the five 13mm bolts holding the plastic splash shield, leaving the two outer rear bolts for now. Pull it down around the gray trim, work it around the tow hooks and slide it forward off the truck.

Support the small stamped steel skid and remove the last two 13mm bolts.

ZR2 / AT4X trucks: remove the four T40 Torx bolts, then the three 13mm bolts across the center. Support the skid as the last bolt comes out.

Loosen the two front 13mm bolts (slotted holes), remove the three rear bolts, then slide the skid off and remove the front two bolts.

Remove the two 13mm bolts on the bottom. Pry off the two plastic covers on the lower bumper and remove the bolt behind each with a 13mm socket and extension. Pull the guard straight down.

Engine skid only: you can leave the factory clip nuts in the rear crossmember and reuse the factory bolts. If you are adding a transmission skid, pry out the three factory clip nuts with a flat screwdriver and snap in the supplied 5/16 clip nuts. Non-ZR2 trucks may have no clip nuts here, so just install the 5/16 clip nuts.

Lift the engine skid up to the front of the truck with a floor jack or transmission jack.

Start the three factory hex bolts across the front of the skid by hand.

Install factory bolts in the four center holes. You will have a few extra factory hex bolts if you want them all to match.

Install the 5/16 x 1-1/4 in. hex bolts with washers in the three rear slotted holes. If you are adding a transmission skid, only install the center bolt for now. Then tighten all of the hardware.

Snap the black plastic caps into all of the round holes over the recessed hardware. The two front outer holes are close to the mounting bracket. If a cap does not sit flush, carefully sand its edge, avoiding the locking tabs.
